Care & Laundering Guide for Commercial Towel Programs

How a towel is laundered affects its lifespan as much as how it\’s made. A few practical guidelines for keeping a commercial towel program looking good longer.

Washing

  • Wash similar colors together to avoid dye transfer over repeated cycles
  • Use the minimum effective detergent dose – over-dosing leaves residue that reduces absorbency over time
  • Oxygen-based bleach is generally gentler on cotton fiber than chlorine bleach for maintaining whiteness

Drying

High heat speeds drying but accelerates fiber breakdown over hundreds of cycles. Where laundry throughput allows, a moderate heat setting extends towel life without materially slowing turnover.

Rotation

Introducing new stock in batches rather than all at once keeps wear levels roughly even across your inventory, so towels get retired together rather than in a way that leaves a visibly mismatched set on the shelf.
